Chinese tech giant Huawei on Monday (May 18) launched two laptops powered by HarmonyOS, marking the company's debut operating system for personal computers (PCs).

The launch of the Huawei MateBook Pro and MateBook Fold Ultimate Design demonstrates the company's push to expand HarmonyOS beyond smartphones and tablets into the PC market long led by Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

At a launch event in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, Huawei executive director Yu Chengdong said computers powered by HarmonyOS integrate software, hardware, devices and cloud computing services to provide a comprehensive new experience for PC use.

HarmonyOS, or Hongmeng in Chinese, is an open-source operating system designed for a variety of devices and scenarios. Originally launched in 2019, it has been deployed across smartphones, tablets, wearables, smart home appliances and new energy vehicles.
