The Mandalika – A powerful collaboration forged in the aftermath of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2025 is setting a new standard for how mega-events can institutionalize social responsibility. The InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), and the State Assets and Auction Services Office (KPKNL) Mataram have formalized a partnership to administer a Rp72.5 million social fund derived from the event's charity auction. This structured handover ensures the proceeds directly support two key pillars: national health and local economic resilience.

The funds, raised through the "Driven to Give" charity auction organized by KPKNL Mataram, were symbolically presented on December 15. In a clear division of labor reflecting their core competencies, ITDC will utilize its Rp36,261,900 share for a Program to Accelerate Stunting Handling, while MGPA will dedicate an equal amount to a Community Empowerment Program around the international circuit. This targeted approach ensures expertise is applied where it is most effective.

Agus Setiawan, Acting General Manager of The Mandalika for ITDC, framed the partnership as integral to their commitment. He stated that collaboration between ITDC, MGPA, and KPKNL Mataram is a real example of how tourism and sports ecosystems can align with a social agenda. This philosophy moves beyond viewing events as isolated occurrences, instead weaving them into the region's broader social development tapestry.

The role of KPKNL Mataram as the fund-raising and distributing authority adds a layer of public accountability and transparency to the initiative. Doni Prabudi, Head of KPKNL Mataram, expressed that the distributed aid value is a first step from a spirit of "gotong royong" (mutual cooperation) expected to provide sustainable benefits. This government agency's involvement bridges the event's commercial aspects with public welfare objectives.

This social partnership emerges from an event of unprecedented scale for the region. The 2025 Grand Prix attracted a record 140,324 spectators over three days and significantly boosted the local economy, with hotel occupancy rates soaring to 100% in the Mandalika area and 93% across Lombok. The charity initiative ensures a portion of this success is systematically reinvested into the community's fabric.

Looking forward, the partners see this as a replicable model. MGPA's Acting Vice President Commercial, Rully Habibie, indicated that such charity initiatives could be developed into official side events integrated with future international agendas, broadening the social benefits for NTB residents. This suggests a move towards making philanthropy a regular, expected feature of the event calendar.

The concerted effort by ITDC, MGPA, and KPKNL exemplifies a mature approach to destination management. It acknowledges that the long-term success of a destination like Mandalika depends not only on world-class infrastructure and exciting events but also on the health and prosperity of its surrounding communities. By formalizing this social partnership, they are investing in the very foundation upon which sustainable tourism is built.

Ultimately, this collaboration delivers a powerful message: the legacy of a world-class race is measured not just in economic metrics or global TV viewership, but also in the concrete improvements it fosters in the lives of the local population. It establishes a framework where future events can contribute directly and measurably to social priorities.
