Jakarta - Trip.com Group has strategically positioned Bandung as Southeast Asia’s newest gateway for international leisure and business travel by integrating the Whoosh high-speed train into its global booking system. In partnership with KCIC, this initiative enables tourists to book tickets for the 45-minute Jakarta–Bandung sprint in their own currency and language, effectively placing West Java’s cultural and natural treasures within effortless reach of the world.

Bandung, historically celebrated as “Parijs van Java,” now stands at the forefront of Indonesia’s modern transportation narrative. The city’s colonial architecture, vibrant culinary scene, and creative economy are no longer limited to domestic visitors. With Whoosh fully bookable via Trip.com, international travelers can seamlessly incorporate Bandung into broader Indonesian itineraries, linking the highland metropolis to Jakarta’s international airport, Bali’s resorts, and beyond in a few digital clicks.

Krishna Arya, General Manager of Trip.com Indonesia, noted that the platform’s integration dismantles traditional barriers to regional exploration. “By simplifying the booking process and localizing payment methods, we are inviting global tourists to discover West Java’s diverse landscapes—from volcanic highlands to pristine southern beaches—with unprecedented ease,” he said. The executive pointed to Whoosh’s 2025 record of over 400,000 international passengers as evidence of pent-up demand for efficient intercity connectivity.

Ian Luo, Global Commercial Head of International Train Business at Trip.com Group, framed the partnership as a natural evolution of the company’s rail strategy. “Our vision is to democratize train travel globally. Whoosh represents the gold standard in Southeast Asian rail, and integrating it allows us to offer a truly multi-modal travel solution,” Luo remarked. He added that the success of this model in Indonesia could pave the way for similar integrations across other ASEAN markets.

Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, President Director of KCIC, emphasized that the collaboration extends far beyond transportation. “Whoosh is a catalyst for regional economic development. We are not just moving people; we are moving the perception of Bandung and West Java from peripheral destinations to must-visit locations on the global tourism map,” he explained. The executive highlighted that streamlined access encourages longer stays and higher spending, benefiting local businesses and communities.

Tourism stakeholders in West Java have welcomed the development, anticipating a surge in international arrivals. Destinations such as Kawah Putih, Tangkuban Parahu, and Pangandaran’s coast are now positioned as viable day-trip options from Jakarta or Bandung. The integration also supports the Ministry of Tourism’s broader strategy to disperse foreign visitor traffic beyond Bali, promoting more equitable economic distribution across the archipelago.

Ridership data from 2023 to 2025 affirms the growing international appetite for Whoosh. Malaysia led with approximately 300,000 passengers, followed by Singapore, China, and combined significant numbers from Japan and South Korea. These figures validate the train’s appeal among quality-conscious travelers and provide a strong foundation for Trip.com’s marketing efforts targeting long-haul markets in Europe and the Americas.

Ultimately, the Whoosh–Trip.com synergy demonstrates how digital innovation can unlock the tourism potential of second-tier cities. By converting transit time into destination time, the partnership redefines regional travel norms. Bandung is no longer merely a stopover; it is now a compelling anchor for global tourists seeking authentic Indonesian experiences backed by world-class infrastructure.
