Global digital infrastructure company, EDGNEX Data Centers by DAMAC announced the development of a data center supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technology in Jakarta with a total investment of US$2.3 billion or around Rp37.54 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,323 per US dollar). The project owned by the company headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is one of the largest AI-specific developments in the Southeast Asia region with an additional capacity in the future of 144 Megawatts (MW). For information, EDGNEX operates in 11 countries, namely the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, Greece, Spain, Finland, Italy, including Indonesia.

DAMAC Group founder Hussain Sajwani said that following the land acquisition process completed in March by DAMAC, the site has entered the early stages of construction with the first phase expected to be operational in December 2026.

Later, the data center will adopt high-density AI racks, setting a new standard for next-generation infrastructure in the Southeast Asia region. "This is our second development in Indonesia, which further emphasizes our commitment to bridging the digital divide in the rapidly growing markets in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia," said Sajwani in a written statement, Wednesday (6/18/2025).

Sajwani revealed that this project will play an important role in accelerating the transition from an analog base to a robust AI-based digital economy. "Indonesia remains a market with high potential in the region, but still faces a digital infrastructure gap, large-scale infrastructure limitations, and increasing latency challenges," he said. Even so, according to Sajwani, with the rapid adoption of AI in various sectors, this project is here to meet the need for scalable and energy-efficient infrastructure.
