Batam City continues to strengthen its position as a magnet for investment and tourism in the regional area. The Central Statistics Agency noted that Batam's economic growth reached 6.69% in 2024, higher than the national average and the Riau Islands Province. In the tourism sector, foreign tourist visits from January to November 2024 reached 1,166,849 people, a significant increase from 1,043,078 visits in the same period the previous year. "The development of Bengkong is very encouraging. The presence of high-class entertainment facilities has turned this area into a favorite destination for Batam residents and foreign tourists," said the Chairman of the Batam Special REI DPD, Robinson Tan recently. According to the data obtained, tourists from Singapore and Malaysia are still the largest group of visitors. This growth is in line with Batam's role as a Special Economic Zone since the 1970s. Its location directly bordering Singapore and Malaysia makes Batam dubbed as part of the "Golden Triangle" of Southeast Asia. "Infrastructure support such as widening of the main road and construction of the Sei Ladi flyover strengthens the mobility and investment appeal of this city," he said. According to him, of the many developing areas, Bengkong is now emerging as a prominent lifestyle destination. Rows of cafes, restaurants, beach clubs, and entertainment facilities have sprung up along the coast and main road of Bengkong. This area is often compared to Seminyak in Bali because it is a new magnet for culinary and recreational tourism, especially for tourists from Singapore. "The property and residential development in Bengkong has also increased rapidly along with the growing public interest in a complete and comfortable commercial area," he added.
