IIE 2025 Strengthens Indonesia's Position On The Global Halal Tourism Map

Thursday, 24 Jul 2025

The Ministry of Tourism believes that hosting the 2025 International Islamic Expo (IIE) can strengthen Indonesia's position on the global halal tourism map.

"We see that Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population. Of course, this has significant implications for developing potential that we can utilize optimally for the welfare of the people," said Vinsensius Jemadu, Deputy for Event Development at the Ministry of Tourism, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Vinsensius stated that by 2030, the global Muslim population is projected to reach 2 billion people.

This potential presents a significant opportunity for the tourism sector to exploit, as there is potential for tourist movement from one country to another, including to Indonesia.

He emphasized that, from a business perspective, halal tourism is a service for Muslim tourists worldwide that prioritizes a comfortable and safe tourism experience.

This segment is also considered by many to be maximized as one of Indonesia's strengths as a tourist destination.

The 2025 IIE also aims to boost Indonesia's competitiveness index in the global Muslim index rankings, which is currently stagnant.

As the primary forum for the halal tourism and services ecosystem, Vinsensius stated that the 2025 IIE affirms the national commitment to supporting the regeneration of the global halal industry and strengthening strategic networks between countries.

"With the success of the 2025 International Islamic Expo, it can be concluded that this event has succeeded in providing a comprehensive platform that will encourage the growth of the sharia economy, open access to investment across continents, and strengthen Indonesia's position as a global halal tourism hub," said Vinsensius.

With the theme "The 15th Islamic Tourism Exchange," this year's IIE was held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Senayan, from July 11-13, 2025.

The event was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Office.

The event brought together more than 1,000 exhibitors consisting of Muslim tourism industry players including Hajj and Umrah services, sharia airlines, tour operators, halal hotels, visa agencies from both within and outside the country covering Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
