Tuesday, 11 Feb 2025

Sports have evolved from being merely a hobby to an integral aspect of the lifestyle of the Indonesian populace. A recent survey conducted by Populix reveals that 94% of respondents engage in physical activity at least once a week.

This trend indicates a growing awareness of the importance of physical health, with many individuals opting for practical and easily accessible forms of exercise in their local environments. Populix has recently published a report titled “Understanding Indonesia’s Sports Trends,” which examines the public's interest in sports activities. The research indicates that a significant portion of the population now incorporates exercise into their daily lives. However, many still prioritize activities that are convenient and comfortable to perform at home or in their immediate surroundings.

According to Indah Tanip, VP of Research at Populix, “Out of 1,030 survey respondents, 94% reported exercising regularly, at least once a week. While most engage in solo activities, a small percentage are also part of sports communities,” as quoted on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

These communities vary widely, encompassing both team sports and individual activities such as gym workouts, cycling, swimming, and running. This diversity underscores the commitment of the population to integrate exercise into their lifestyle.

Morning Exercise Habits in Local Areas

The majority of respondents (68%) reported exercising one to two times a week, while 23% indicated a more regular routine of three to four times weekly, and 6% exercise daily. When asked about the most suitable time for physical activity, 58% preferred the morning, followed by 32% who favored the afternoon.

In terms of location, a significant portion (42%) feels most comfortable exercising at home, while 23% prefer local fields. This preference highlights the tendency of individuals to engage in activities that are both convenient and easily accessible.
