The increasing popularity of the slow living concept has prompted many housing developers to align their residential designs with this lifestyle trend. Moreover, slow living is now being integrated into various other aspects of life that have previously experienced rapid acceleration. This shift is not limited to housing but extends to work, parenting styles, and leisure time as well. Unbeknownst to many, the pace of our lives continues to escalate, alongside a growing awareness of the need to embrace a slower lifestyle Consequently, the slow living concept is evolving into a new way of thinking that influences multiple facets of community life. Salman Alfarizi, the Secretary of the Malang Raya Regional Association of Housing Developers, shared insights during a talk show on the Idjen Talk program, broadcast live on Radio City Guide 911 FM on Saturday, February 16, 2025. He noted that with the rising trend of slow living, housing developers are adapting their residential concepts accordingly. "Currently, developers are focusing on housing designs that prioritize environmental friendliness, where the layout considers air circulation and a natural ambiance," he stated. Salman emphasized that developers must adhere to the stringent regulations set by the Batu City government regarding construction. Permits and spatial planning are strictly regulated to maintain a balance between development and environmental preservation. He mentioned that developers cannot arbitrarily purchase land without ensuring compliance with the applicable spatial planning regulations. In addition, Ali Mashuri, a lecturer in psychology at Brawijaya University, pointed out that one reason individuals opt for slow living is due to the fatigue associated with urban life. "The slow living lifestyle originated in Italy in the 1980s, where people sought a less stressful and higher quality way of living," he explained. He further added that the slow living approach emphasizes mental health as a response to the stress levels associated with fast-paced urban lifestyles.
