Enhance The Healthy Lifestyle Of Adolescents Through Physical Activity And Balanced Nutrition

, 04 May 2025

The Ministry of Health invites the public to participate in fostering a healthy generation through innovative community and digital-based approaches. One such initiative is the 'Si Paling Megang' roadshow, which took place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the GOR 27 September Universitas Mulawarman in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

Elvieda Sariwati, the Director of Health Promotion and Community Health at the Ministry, emphasized the need for a more intensive introduction of healthy lifestyles to the youth to anticipate the rise of non-communicable diseases in the future. 'We are witnessing a concerning increase in the prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension among adolescents, largely driven by high consumption of sugar, salt, and fat, coupled with insufficient physical activity.

This program is a strategic response to address these challenges,' Elvieda stated in a press release received by Tempo on April 27, 2025. The 'Si Paling Megang' campaign, an acronym for 'Ignite with Movement and Balanced Nutrition,' aims to encourage teenagers to adopt nutritious eating habits and engage in regular physical activity in ways that resonate with their daily lives. Through a combination of online activities such as workshops and social media content, along with offline events like the roadshow, the Ministry seeks to raise awareness using approaches that are relatable to young people. In Samarinda, over 150 teenagers participated in the roadshow, engaging in activities such as a healthy walk and discussions on nutrition and physical activity with Dr. Joko Purnomo Heroanto Sp.A and Zaynna, the 2021 East Kalimantan Tourism Ambassador. Additionally, participants were invited to take part in interactive games like scavenger hunts and health quizzes. 'Through these enjoyable methods, we aim to demonstrate that living healthily does not have to be boring or difficult. In fact, with exciting activities, we can cultivate good habits from an early age,' Elvieda remarked. The roadshow also forms part of the strategy to support the National Movement for a Healthy Living Society (Germas) initiated by the government.
