The Wonosobo Balloon Festival Returns On July 6, 2025, To Celebrate The 200th Anniversary Of Wonosobo

The skies of Wonosobo will once again be enlivened by the charm of hot air balloons during the Java Balloon Attraction 2025 event, scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Kalianget Recreation Park in Wonosobo, Central Java. This special event not only showcases a mesmerizing parade of hot air balloons but also serves as a significant moment to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Wonosobo Regency, marking two centuries of rich historical and cultural journey. Agus Wibowo, the Head of the Wonosobo Tourism and Culture Office, stated that the Java Balloon Attraction 2025 represents a beautiful collaboration between tradition and modern creativity.

A total of 36 hot air balloons will adorn the sky in an impressive formation, creating iconic representations of Wonosobo such as Mount Sindoro and Telaga Menjer. "This formation is not only beautiful but also presents a high level of difficulty, which will be a major attraction for spectators," he remarked in an official release received by Kompas.com on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

This event carries the theme "Creative, Culture, Beauty" and is the result of a collaboration between the Wonosobo Regency Government, through the Tourism and Culture Office, and the Wonosobo Balloon Community. The official recognition of the Wonosobo Hot Air Balloon tradition, Java Balloon Attraction 2025, will also mark a historic moment, namely the handover of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Certificate from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia to the Wonosobo Regent. This certificate serves as an official acknowledgment of the Wonosobo hot air balloon tradition, which has deeply rooted itself as part of the local culture.

"This is an important recognition of our cultural heritage, and we are very proud," said Agus Wibowo. The event will commence at 06:00 WIB. According to Fatonah Ismangil, Head of the Marketing Division of the Tourism and Culture Office, the hot air balloon attraction will begin at 06:00 WIB, a time chosen due to the most favorable wind and weather conditions in the morning. "We have designed a challenging formation while adhering to regulations, which means the balloons will be tethered. Nevertheless, each balloon will contribute to a masterpiece in the sky of Wonosobo," Fatonah explained.

Not only will visitors enjoy hot air balloons, but they will also be treated to traditional art performances such as Topeng Lengger, Lengger Punjen, and Angklung Tek Tek, which enrich the cultural heritage of Wonosobo.

The Java Balloon Attraction 2025 will also be enlivened by: The creativity of balloon supporters with attractive costumes and attributes, a UMKM bazaar showcasing local products unique to Wonosobo, educational sessions on hot air balloons by the Wonosobo Balloon Community, and special awards for content creators who successfully capture the best moments of the event.

As a premier event in Central Java since 2023, the Java Balloon Attraction is not only a source of entertainment but also serves as a medium for education, cultural preservation, and tourism promotion for Wonosobo. To witness this balloon festival, tourists only need to pay Rp 5,000 as a retribution ticket for the Kalianget Recreation Park. The ticket price is even just Rp 200 if tourists pay using Qris.
