Indonesian travelers can now apply for a double-entry visa or a Schengen multi-entry visa after their second visit to the European Union. "From now on, Indonesian citizens visiting the European Union for the second time can apply for a Schengen multi-entry visa," stated von der Leyen at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels, as reported by Antara on Monday (14/7/2025). In this context, holders of the Schengen multi-entry visa can enter the European Union repeatedly with a single visa document. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen mentioned that this policy could facilitate Indonesians wishing to visit, study, and network in the European Union. "Essentially, we aim to build a bridge between the societies of Indonesia and the European Union," von der Leyen added. According to Kompas.com (July 13, 2025), Ursula clarified that this policy is not solely aimed at facilitating visits, but also at strengthening long-term relationships between the communities of both regions, particularly in the areas of education, investment, and social exchange. She further stated that this visa policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar, which is a primary focus in the strategic partnership between the European Union and Indonesia. Simultaneously, the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, welcomed the enhancement of cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union, especially in the realm of citizen mobility. He emphasized the significance of long-term relationships built on mutual trust and shared values. "Once again, I emphasize that in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, we view Europe as playing a crucial role in maintaining global stability. In our opinion, Europe continues to be a leader in many aspects of modern life, and we consistently regard Europe as an important partner," stated Prabowo. For your information, the Schengen visa is an entry permit for non-European Union citizens to undertake travel or short visits lasting up to 90 days within a 180-day period to a country in the Schengen area. Specifically, the multiple-entry visa allows tourists to make several visits to the Schengen area as long as the visa remains valid. According to the official website of the Directorate General of Migration and Internal Affairs of the European Union, tourists wishing to apply for a Schengen visa must submit their visa application to the consulate at least 15 days prior to the planned trip, and no more than 6 months in advance. The standard processing time for this visa application is 15 days. This period may be extended up to 45 days if a more detailed examination of the application is required and/or additional documents are necessary.
