Monday, 28 Jul 2025

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) A. Muhaimin Iskandar stated that under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, the poverty rate in Indonesia has successfully decreased and that empowerment efforts will continue to be strengthened. Coordinating Minister Muhaimin emphasized that the empowerment orchestration carried out by the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment aims to accelerate the transformation of poor communities into prosperous and independent communities. He made this statement in response to the release of the poverty profile by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which showed that the number of poor people in March 2025 decreased by 0.20 million compared to September 2024. "We will focus on empowering the 210,000 people who have escaped the shackles of poverty to become empowered and prosperous," Muhaimin said in a written statement on Friday (July 25, 2025). He explained that empowerment efforts will also focus on 2.38 million people living in extreme poverty.

Based on BPS data, the poverty rate decreased by 0.40 million people compared to September 2024. Furthermore, Muhaimin explained that empowerment efforts will continue to be carried out in coordination with ministries/institutions (K/L). This is in line with the mandate of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025 concerning the Optimization of Poverty Alleviation and the Elimination of Extreme Poverty. "We continue to strengthen and develop models of poverty alleviation efforts by orchestrating relevant Ministries/Institutions so that the target of 0 percent extreme poverty by 2026 can be achieved," explained Muhaimin. Based on the Inpres, Muhaimin assessed that an empowerment-based poverty alleviation model can be implemented, including through optimizing community funds in collaboration with philanthropic institutions.
