Google DeepMind Establishes An AI Team For World Modeling Development

Google DeepMind is in the process of assembling a new research team focused on artificial intelligence (AI) to develop world models capable of simulating physical environments. 

This initiative is led by Tim Brooks, the former head of the Sora project at OpenAI, who joined DeepMind in October to work on world simulation and video creation for Google. 

World models represent an innovative technology in AI designed to generate realistic environmental simulations. 

This technology can be utilized for various applications, including the creation of real-time interactive media for video games and films, as well as for training scenarios for robots. This project is also part of Google's strategic efforts in the race to achieve more advanced Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) compared to its competitors. 

In a post on platform X last Monday, Brooks expressed that DeepMind has an ambitious vision to develop generative AI models that can simulate the real world. 

Additionally, he announced the opening of positions for research engineers and scientists to support the development of these models 

The team will focus on creating large-scale real-world simulations, data management, and integration with multimodal language models. "We believe that scaling pre-training on video and multimodal data is critical to achieving artificial general intelligence," stated DeepMind on platform X. 

This technology is projected to support various fields, including visual reasoning, simulation, planning, and real-time interactive entertainment. 

The competition to achieve AGI is intensifying, as reported by Theverge.com on Saturday, January 11, 2025. 

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has even claimed that the company is nearing the AGI benchmark, with autonomous AI expected to be significantly operational in the near future.
