The Deputy Minister Of Communication And Digital Affairs Said The Roadmap Is The Foundation For Ethical Use Of AI

Thursday, 24 Jul 2025

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Wamenkomdigi), Nezar Patria, stated that through a national strategy and long-term roadmap, the government is promoting the ethical, fair, and inclusive use of artificial intelligence (AI).

"Harnessing the potential of AI and proactively addressing risks is firmly embedded in the 2020–2045 National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap," Nezar said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to Nezar, these two strategic frameworks are a crucial foundation for ensuring that AI technology is developed and used ethically, fairly, transparently, and accountably.

The government is also paying close attention to socio-economic impacts, such as labor migration, local talent development, and personal data protection.

"Key considerations in this national effort include strong data governance and upholding ethical principles, such as fairness, transparency, and accountability," he said.

Globally, Indonesia is considered to be a leader in its readiness to strategically adopt AI technology. In 2024, Indonesia was recorded as the first Southeast Asian country to complete UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology for Artificial Intelligence (RAM AI).

"This achievement underscores our nation's readiness and desire to embrace the transformative opportunities presented by AI for our economic and social progress. However, with great opportunities comes great responsibilities," Nezar emphasized.

However, he also highlighted that Indonesia is not yet included in the AI Risk Repository released by MIT researchers, which contains more than 3,000 examples of global AI risks.

"We ensure that insights from Indonesia, the world's most populous country, are not excluded from the global framework for addressing transformational AI risks," Nezar said.
