PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) and PT IBM Indonesia (IBM) have established a strategic collaboration to address the rapid advancements in technology and the growing demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) services in Indonesia. This partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Telkom's Director of Strategic Portfolio, Budi Setyawan Wijaya, and IBM's President Director, Roy Kosasih. Under the MoU, both companies have agreed to deliver innovative AI services tailored to the market needs in Indonesia and to expedite the development of AI capabilities within Telkom. Budi Setyawan Wijaya emphasized that this partnership represents a strategic move to enhance TelkomGroup's position as a leading digital service provider in Indonesia, particularly in the AI sector. He further noted that the adoption of AI is expected to accelerate in the future, driven by the increasing digital transformation initiatives and the demands from businesses and government for improved efficiency and productivity. According to an IDC report for 2024, AI investments in the Asia-Pacific region are projected to reach USD 110 billion by 2028, with an annual growth rate of 24%. Additionally, research from Kearney predicts that AI's contribution to Indonesia's economy will amount to USD 366 billion by 2030. This collaboration merges Telkom's infrastructure and technology with IBM's AI capabilities, including WatsonX, IBM Cloud Pak for Data, and AI-Powered Security. IBM's human-centered and ethical approach to data management is anticipated to assist Telkom in building customer trust in the AI technologies it develops. Roy Kosasih, President Director of IBM Indonesia, reaffirmed IBM's commitment to supporting technological transformation in Indonesia through expertise in AI ethics and a deep understanding of industry needs. He stressed the importance of ensuring that AI not only creates new opportunities but also promotes equitable welfare.
