CEO Forum Indonesia-India Discusses Digital Technology Partnerships

Indonesia and India are strengthening their strategic partnership in the digital economy sector through the third Indonesia-India CEO’s Forum held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi. This forum is recognized as a platform for business leaders from both nations to enhance their alliance in areas such as digital technology, e-commerce, manufacturing, clean energy, as well as health and pharmaceuticals. The event was attended by Ismail, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital, and Raline Rahmat Shah, the Special Staff to the Minister of Communication and Digital for Global Partnerships and Digital Education. Ismail emphasized that the collaboration between Indonesia and India represents a tangible step towards creating a more competitive digital ecosystem on the global stage. "Indonesia and India are two major economic powers with remarkable digital potential. This CEO Forum serves as evidence that we are not only preparing for the digital future but also positioning ourselves as influential players in the global technology landscape," he stated, as quoted on Wednesday (January 29, 2025). 

1. Significance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) 

During the forum, Ismail also highlighted the significance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital and the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This MoU encompasses three primary areas: the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and new technologies; strengthening public digital infrastructure such as digital identity systems; and fostering a digital ecosystem that involves startups, inter-business collaboration, and enhancing human resource skills in information technology. "This MoU represents a concrete commitment to accelerate the integration of technology in both countries. Indonesia and India will become increasingly interconnected across various digital sectors, fostering innovations that can compete with global technology giants," he remarked. 

2. Indonesia must not merely be a consumer of technology   

The Special Staff to the Minister of Communication and Information, Raline Rahmat Shah, articulated that this forum represents a significant opportunity for both nations to accelerate their digital revolution. Raline, who focuses on global partnerships and advancing digital education, stated, "We cannot simply remain consumers of technology. Indonesia and India must emerge as producers of innovation. Through AI, IoT, and industrial digitalization, we can develop solutions that are pertinent to the global market, positioning both countries as new digital powerhouses in Asia." 

3. The expectation for rapid development of digital innovation   

She expressed optimism that digital innovation would progress more swiftly and yield tangible benefits for the economic growth of both nations. The Indonesian delegation was led by Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), alongside Anindya S. Bakrie, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, and CEOs such as Afifuddin Suhaeli Kalla (CEO of PT Bukaka Teknik Utama) and Patrick Waluyo (CEO of GoTo Group). The forum also welcomed prominent industry figures from India, including Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), as well as industry leaders like Ajay S. Shriram (Managing Director of DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd), Vijay Shekhar Sharma (CEO of Paytm), and Kamal Bali (President & MD of Volvo Group India).
