IPhone 16e Sells Well Despite Criticism That Its Price Is More Expensive

Wednesday, 19 Mar 2025

The iPhone 16e has been on the market for about two weeks, and it seems that the response from consumers is quite positive. Although this cellphone has been criticized for its higher price, the iPhone 16e's sales are better than its predecessor.

According to a report by analyst firm IDC, sales of the iPhone 16e were 60% higher in its first three days of sales compared to the iPhone SE 2022 in the same period. Even though the iPhone 16e is priced higher at USD 599 versus the iPhone SE 2022 which is sold for USD 429.

Even though the price is more expensive, consumers don't seem to care much for several reasons. First, after the iPhone SE was removed, the iPhone 16e is still the cheapest iPhone today.,

Second, the iPhone 16e may be more profitable for enterprise customers so that orders have increased. Third, consumers who upgrade from older iPhones such as the iPhone SE 2022 may feel that the price increase is not too significant.

However, this increase is unlikely to help restore iPhone sales in China. IDC estimates that iPhone sales in China this year will fall by around 2%. "The competition from Android will become increasingly fierce, reinforced by China's national subsidies that will significantly benefit Android compared to Apple," said IDC Senior Director Nabila Popal, as quoted by Bloomberg, Monday (3/17/2025).

The Chinese government is currently holding a subsidy program for cellphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other gadgets to encourage public consumption levels. The subsidy of 550 Yuan applies to devices priced below 6,000 Yuan.
