Google will allow children to access the Gemini AI application on Android devices.

According to a report by The New York Times quoted in The Verge broadcast on Saturday (3/5), Google via email has informed parents who use Family Link parental controls that their children will soon be able to access the Gemini AI application on monitored Android devices.

Children under the age of 13 will be able to activate and access Gemini themselves through Google Family Link, which is designed for parents to supervise their children's device usage, set limits on device usage, and protect children from harmful content.

The company said that children will be able to use Gemini to do things like help with homework or read stories.

The company also stated that children's data will not be used to train artificial intelligence models.

Google warned parents in its email that "Gemini can make mistakes" and children "may encounter content that you don't want them to see."

In addition to being able to make mistakes in making recommendations and answering questions, the use of AI chatbots can cause worrying problems, such as making users think they are real people.

Regarding the opening of access to the Gemini app for children, Google via email encourages parents to talk to their children and explain that AI is not human and that they should not share sensitive information with chatbots.

Google spokesperson Karl Ryan in an email sent to The Verge confirmed that parents will receive additional notification when their child accesses the Gemini app for the first time.

He also said that parents can disable their child's access to the Gemini app through Family Link.
