Apple is reportedly planning to halve the launch schedule for the iPhone 18, which is expected to be released in 2026, with a gap of about half a year.
As reported by Tech Crunch on Wednesday, The Information reported that the company plans to release the Pro version of the iPhone 18 first in the fall of 2026.
Meanwhile, the more affordable version of the iPhone 18, along with a new version of the iPhone 16e, will be launched in the spring of 2027. The report also said that Apple may release a new foldable iPhone in the fall of 2026.
Apple is also reportedly planning to launch a thinner version of the iPhone, rumored to be called the "iPhone 17 Air" this year, according to Bloomberg. The tech company is also expected to launch a successor to that model in 2026.
In addition, Apple is reportedly going to test the production of a cheaper iPhone 18 model in India to reduce its dependence on China for production.
Apple prepared the plan because the trade war between the US and China is heating up again, which has finally pushed the company to look for better options.
In fact, the diversification of iPhone production began in 2017, when Apple and Wistron began producing the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE at the Bengaluru, India, plant.
At that time, the reason for the diversification was due to high import taxes on goods from China.
The decision significantly led Apple to move more production due to the trade war between the United States and China during Donald Trump's first term.
After all that was done, in April 2024 it was revealed that about 14 percent of all iPhones in the world were made in India.
