Ministry Of Communication And Digital Says Industry Responds Positively To 1.4 GHz Frequency Auction

Friday, 13 Jun 2025

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) stated that based on the interest gathering process for the auction of the 1.4 GHz frequency band, telecommunications industry players responded positively to the government's plan to immediately auction the frequency.

The interest gathering process must be carried out by the government to telecommunications industry players in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Informatics Number 6 of 2024 concerning Procedures for Selecting Radio Frequency Band Users.

"Of the ten organizers whose interest we asked, there were seven organizers who expressed interest in participating in the selection of the 1.4 GHz band," said the Director General of Digital Infrastructure of the Kemkomdigi Wayan Toni Supriyanto to ANTARA in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Digital Number 13 of 2025 concerning the Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum in the 1.4 GHz Radio Frequency Band, the frequency provides Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services to increase the reach of internet access based on fixed broadband networks.

In addition, the regulation also states that with the adoption of BWA, it is expected that internet access based on fixed broadband networks can be available at affordable prices.

The results of the interest gathering are also the basis for the Ministry of Communication and Digital to decide on the mechanism used for the frequency auction process in accordance with applicable regulations.

"From the results of the interest gathering, we decided that the permit acquisition process would use a selection mechanism, and not an evaluation mechanism, because of considerations of demand exceeding supply," he said.

Previously, on Wednesday (4/6), the Ministry of Communication and Digital attempted to provide quality internet services that are affordable for the public, one of which is through the auction of the 1.4 GHz frequency band spectrum.

"So, we are trying with a cheap internet program through the 1.4 GHz selection. This means that later the public can enjoy cheap fixed broadband services with speeds of up to 100 mbps," said Toni.

In addition to the 1.4 GHz broadband, Kemkomdigi also intends to auction several other frequencies, namely the 2.6 GHz broadband and 700 MHz in the second semester of 2025 after carrying out the spectrum rearrangement or refarming process.
