The Ministry of Creative Economy is exploring opportunities for collaboration with the company that owns the Roblox platform to support domestic game development efforts. Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya discussed efforts to develop the domestic game ecosystem when receiving representatives from Roblox in Jakarta, Monday (23/6). "We see a great opportunity to expand the ecosystem, not only from the user side, but also the developers and the platform itself," he said as quoted in the ministry's press statement on Tuesday. Roblox is an online game platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation, a company from the United States. As of February 2025, the platform had more than 90 million daily active users globally and around 60 percent of its users were under 16 years old. In Indonesia, Roblox's monthly active users are estimated at more than 7 million, with a growing creator community that still requires structural support and facilitation. The government's collaboration with Roblox is expected to support the strengthening of game development efforts as part of the digital creative economy business sub-sector in Indonesia. Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology at the Ministry of Creative Economy Muhammad Niel El Himam said that Roblox is not just a platform for playing games. According to him, Roblox also provides space for creators to design, distribute, and monetize their games. "We need to see Roblox as a strategic means to build the independence of a national game ecosystem that is globally competitive," he said. Roblox's Head of Public Policy Nicky Jackson Colaco admitted that he was enthusiastic about collaborating with the Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy. "Indonesia is a big market for Roblox, not only because of the number of players, but also because of the high potential of local creators," he said. "We are ready to collaborate in educational programs, technology demonstrations, and sponsorship support with the Indonesian government," he added.
