Google officially brings back the AI-powered search feature in Google Photos, namely 'Ask Photos', after previously being discontinued. Now, this feature is available to more users with an improved version. Ask Photos was introduced at the Google I/O 2024 event. This feature can search for photos with natural language commands, including complex questions such as "what do I eat in Indonesia?" or "what is my car license plate number?". However, when it was first launched, this feature slowed down simple searches such as beaches or dogs, so it was withdrawn in early June. The removal of traditional search was also considered confusing for users. Now, Google is bringing back classic search with the addition of Gemini intelligence. Users will immediately see the initial results, while AI continues to work behind the scenes to perfect more complex searches. With this new version, Google has started rolling out Ask Photos to users in the US. This feature is only available to users who meet certain requirements, as quoted from Mashable, Saturday (6/28/2025). The requirements are that users must be at least 18 years old and domiciled in the United States. In addition, you must have a Google account and activate the Face Grouping feature to detect human and pet faces.
