Apple released iPadOS 26, which answers years of user requests. This update brings advanced productivity features that maximize the capabilities of the iPad. So far, the iPad has been known to have limitations in its operating system. This condition makes it unable to completely replace the role of a computer. The single-application interface is indeed suitable for beginners and helps focus. However, many professional users complain about the limitations of multitasking, file management and podcasting features. Apple has indeed tried to fix this through various updates, such as the Split View and Slide Over features. However, these features are considered far from the flexibility of the free window on the Mac. With iPadOS 26, Apple is starting to remove old limitations through features that resemble the desktop. Users can now adjust the window size, use the File App similar to Finder and access the menu bar like on the Mac. Quoted from 9to5Mac, Wednesday (2/7/2025), other new features include audio controls for podcasting, background tasks, precision pointers and folders in the dock. The iPad now also supports the Preview application to open various files directly. Despite bringing many Mac-like features, iPadOS 26 maintains the iPad's identity as a touch-based device. Apple has managed to balance simplicity with advanced computing power. Although still in beta, iPadOS 26 marks a big step for Apple to elevate the iPad to a new level. This could be the end of the iPad's limited era and the beginning of a serious competitor to the Mac.
