MIND ID, the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding, is showcasing its water management efforts in operational activities through technology implementation. Heri Yusuf, the Corporate Secretary of MIND ID, highlighted that water plays a crucial role in both production processes and support for the MIND ID Group, necessitating a program that ensures efficient water use. The group is focused on reducing new water extraction from nature, enhancing water reuse in production and support processes, and ensuring that the water released into natural bodies meets applicable quality standards. MIND ID's water management initiatives will be featured at the Environment, Climate, Forestry, and Renewable Energy Festival (LIKE) 2, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). "The LIKE 2 Festival in 2024 is a great opportunity for all of us at MIND ID to be smarter about water usage and to manage water sustainably using climate-friendly technology," Heri mentioned in a press release on Thursday (8/8). PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) is reusing treated industrial and mining wastewater, as well as domestic wastewater, in their mining and mineral processing operations. Meanwhile, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is utilizing biotechnology with a constructed wetland system. This Floating Wetland System employs PVC pipes filled with Vetiver and Water Jasmine roots, which effectively absorb heavy metals like Fe (0.52 ppm/gr) and Mn (2.28 ppm/gr). Additionally, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) operates eight Wastewater Treatment Plants (IPAL) that comply with Indonesian government regulations. The quality of wastewater from all these facilities is regularly monitored, including parameters like pH, biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids, and oil and grease, in line with quality standards. PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) is pushing for tech implementation in the operations of the Sigura-gura and Tangga dams, which are key energy sources for the company's hydroelectric power plants. Through tech advancements and conservation efforts, INALUM is working to maintain water flow to protect the ecosystem around the Lake Toba watershed area. Meanwhile, PT Timah Tbk (TINS) is recycling industrial and mining wastewater, as well as domestic sewage, to reuse in their mining and mineral processing activities. Similarly, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) is utilizing water resources for hydroelectric power. Vale has introduced a new overflow control level sensor technology at Matte Pond, which has improved efficiency by 231,884 m3. This system updates the previous water recycling process for make-up water in the Converter and Furnace. Also, the LIKE 2 Festival is set to take place again from August 8-11, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center Hall A & B in Central Jakarta.
