Check Out The New PGEO Flow2Max Innovation That Boosts The Efficiency Of Geothermal Power Plants!

Monday, 19 Aug 2024

Indonesia stands out as one of the countries with the largest geothermal energy potential in the world, playing a crucial role in advancing global renewable energy development. To meet national and international clean energy targets, technological innovation is essential. In this spirit, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX:PGEO) has launched Flow2Max, a groundbreaking tool for measuring two-phase fluid flow in the geothermal sector worldwide. Flow2Max is the first-ever two-phase flow measurement device that offers more reliable, user-friendly, real-time, accurate, and flexible results compared to existing technologies. With its ability to measure two-phase fluid flow (liquid and vapor) in real-time, Flow2Max enables companies to regularly assess well performance, predict production well productivity, and detect technical issues early on. This innovation reflects PGE's commitment to driving sustainable innovation to enhance efficiency and productivity in the geothermal energy sector. The technology addresses industry challenges by providing precise and accurate solutions for measuring two-phase fluid flow, a critical factor in managing geothermal reservoirs. This innovation is the result of extensive research and development by PGE and is expected to significantly impact global geothermal reservoir management. The technology was developed by Mohamad Husni Mubarok PhD (Husni), Manager of Production and Operational Excellence at PGE, stemming from his doctoral studies at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. In his research, Husni created a method and tool combined with a special algorithm, now known as the Mubarok Equation, which allows for accurate measurement of two-phase fluid flow parameters, including mass flow and enthalpy, in geothermal wells.

We believe that Flow2Max is set to revolutionize the global geothermal industry. This innovation showcases our commitment to advancing technology and providing sustainable solutions to the world's energy challenges, said Julfi Hadi, CEO of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk. PGE is dedicated to continuously innovating and developing new technologies to support the growth of the geothermal sector in Indonesia and beyond. With Flow2Max, PGE reinforces its position as a global leader in geothermal technology development and application. This technology has significant potential to boost the efficiency and productivity of geothermal operations overall. With more accurate, real-time data, operators can optimize production, minimize downtime, and enhance energy recovery. Additionally, Flow2Max contributes to more sustainable resource management by enabling close monitoring of geothermal reservoir conditions. It provides flexibility for geothermal power plant operators to manage their resources more effectively and efficiently, especially in tracking well performance and productivity while estimating the total available power potential. This technology has already been installed in five production wells at PGE's Lahendong area after undergoing prototyping and testing. Flow2Max also aids PGE in early detection of technical issues in wells. The technology has received a patent certificate from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for "Real-time Measurement of Two-phase Mass Flow Rate and Enthalpy Using Pressure Differential Devices," with Patent Number: 11,698,281. Additionally, several patents have been issued in Iceland, Turkey, the Philippines, and New Zealand.
