Thursday, 14 Nov 2024

Tetra Pak, a leading global company in food and beverage processing and packaging, and Sinar Sosro, a top beverage company in Indonesia, announced the winners of the inter-school competition from the DAURI-Daur untuk Negeri initiative on Tuesday (November 12). Initiated by Sinar Sosro, DAURI is a national movement aimed at raising public awareness about recycling and encouraging active participation in recycling used beverage cartons across Indonesia.

Partnering with prominent companies like Tetra Pak and environmental organizations such as EcoBali, DAURI seeks to instill recycling habits among students and the wider community, contributing to a more sustainable environment in Indonesia. This school engagement initiative has successfully reached 30 schools in Bali, significantly reinforcing the message of sustainability.

Tommy Srihartoyo, Sales Director of Tetra Pak Indonesia, stated, “Raising awareness about collecting and recycling used beverage cartons is a key focus of our sustainability strategy. Globally, we collaborate with customers and retailers on various awareness activities to share information and inspire consumers to recycle these cartons. In Indonesia, we are proud to be part of the DAURI-Daur untuk Negeri initiative, educating school children and their families about the importance of recycling and how these cartons can be repurposed into useful products for the community.”

Over five months, the DAURI campaign has engaged more than 20,000 students through various educational activities. Interactive sessions were held to teach participating schools about best practices, the complete recycling process of used beverage cartons, and the roles of stakeholders throughout the value chain.

Dwi Septiantari, Bali Services Area Lead at ecoBali, stated, "At ecoBali, we are thrilled to be part of the DAURI movement and to collaborate with partners like Tetra Pak and Sinar Sosro in promoting a circular economy. Together, we have successfully raised awareness about the recycling process and its importance among young people.

By providing education and inspiring the younger generation, we empower them to make responsible choices like recycling, contributing to a journey towards a more sustainable life. This not only helps protect the environment but also fosters a generation of responsible individuals committed to preserving our planet."

During the DAURI campaign, schools actively participated by collecting as many used beverage cartons as possible for a competition. Throughout the campaign, the collected beverage carton packaging was recorded for recycling. The school with the highest achievement received recognition at an award ceremony attended by representatives from Sinar Sosro, Tetra Pak, and ecoBali.

The top three schools that collected the most used beverage cartons were SMPN 1 Kuta Selatan with 95 kg, SMPN 12 Denpasar with 41 kg, and tied for third place were SMPN 1 Kuta Utara and SMPN 13 Denpasar, each with 25 kg.
