The second plenary session of the 22nd National Conference (Munas) of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has been conducted. The session resulted in the decision to reappoint Jusuf Kalla as the Chairman of PMI for the 2024-2029 term. This decision was communicated by the majority of the conference participants, which included PMI officials from provincial, district, and city levels across Indonesia. The Chairman of the Second Plenary Session, Adang Rocjana, who also serves as the Chairman of PMI West Java, noted that the majority of the 490 attendees expressed full support for Jusuf Kalla's leadership. "Out of the 490 participants present, representing 34 provincial PMIs and one National Volunteer Forum (Forelnas), there was a positive response to the accountability report of the Chairman of PMI, endorsing Jusuf Kalla for another term," Adang stated in his remarks on Monday, December 9, 2024. According to the credentials committee report, there were two proposed candidates for the position of chairman. However, only Jusuf Kalla met the qualifications to be a candidate. "This means that Jusuf Kalla is the sole candidate," said Fachmi Idris, the Chairman of the 22nd PMI National Conference. Fachmi further explained that, in accordance with Article 66, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Bylaws, the reports indicated two candidates for the chairmanship: Agung Laksono and Jusuf Kalla. However, by the deadline set, the support letters for Agung Laksono did not reach 20% of the votes from the eligible delegates. "As a result, he was disqualified as a candidate. In contrast, the support for Jusuf Kalla exceeded 50% of the eligible delegates. According to PMI regulations, if a candidate receives more than 50% support, they can be declared the Chairman by acclamation," he clarified. Jusuf Kalla's accountability report was presented through a video documentation showcasing various PMI activities during his leadership tenure.
