On February 6, The President Inaugurated 270 Regional Heads At The Palace, As Stated By The Minister Of Home Affairs

Friday, 24 Jan 2025

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, announced that approximately 270 elected regional heads from the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections are scheduled to be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on February 6, 2025.

Bima clarified that the regional heads being inaugurated on this date are part of the first group whose election results are uncontested and have not been challenged in the Constitutional Court (MK).

"God willing, Mr. Prabowo will conduct the inauguration in accordance with Law Number 10 of 2016 Article 164 B," stated the Deputy Minister in response to questions from journalists at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, following a cabinet meeting.

Law Number 10 of 2016 serves as the legal framework governing the elections of governors, regents, and mayors. During the inauguration ceremony, Bima noted that the elected governor and deputy governor of Jakarta from the 2024 elections, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno, will also be sworn in by President Prabowo.

The Deputy Minister further indicated that the inauguration of regional heads may occur in three phases or terms.

"There may be three phases; the second will include those whose challenges have been dismissed, and the third will involve those whose challenges have been accepted, leading to a re-election or repeat voting," Bima explained.

The schedule for the inauguration of the two groups of regional heads with contested election results will be adjusted based on the outcomes of the Constitutional Court hearings or any subsequent re-elections.

"Thus, the priority is the first wave. The subsequent waves will align with the conclusion of the MK hearings," the Deputy Minister added.

Bima conveyed that the inauguration schedule, which has been agreed upon by the government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI), was also reported by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian to President Prabowo during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

"Mr. Minister of Home Affairs has reported to the President. The President responded positively. It was reported that this has been unanimously approved by the DPR," Bima Arya stated.
