The Modernization Of Borong Regional Hospital In NTT Represents A Quick Win For Health

Tuesday, 04 Feb 2025

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, laid the first stone for the Borong Regional Hospital in East Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This is part of the Quick Win program by President Prabowo Subianto to modernize 66 regional hospitals in remote areas of Indonesia.

"We are building the Borong Regional Hospital so that people here do not have to travel far for treatment. This is the second hospital built under President Prabowo's quick win program to modernize regional hospitals," said Minister Budi during the groundbreaking event.

The Borong Regional Hospital aims to improve access to specialized healthcare services for the people of East Manggarai and surrounding areas. It will be developed into a modern hospital capable of treating serious conditions like stroke, heart disease, cancer, and kidney issues. With these specialized services, residents of Borong will no longer need to be referred to hospitals outside their area.

"We hope to complete this construction this year, and by early 2026, it will be ready to serve the people of Borong. The Borong Regional Hospital will be a modern facility comparable to hospitals in Java," added Minister Budi.

During this event, Minister Budi also highlighted the importance of enhancing the capacity of healthcare human resources, especially specialist doctors. He urged the Acting Regent of East Manggarai and the Director of Borong Regional Hospital to ensure that scholarship programs for medical staff are effectively implemented.

"We will provide scholarships, and if possible, we want more local youth to become doctors. This way, healthcare services in Borong will be stronger and more sustainable," he stated.

The construction of the Borong Regional Hospital is part of the Ministry of Health's PHTC strategy to improve access and quality of healthcare services in remote areas. By 2025, the government aims to upgrade the classification of hospitals from D/D Pratama to class C in 32 locations, including Borong Regional Hospital.

With support from the central and local governments, along with collaboration from various parties, the development of RSUD Borong is expected to serve as a model for modernizing regional hospitals in Indonesia, offering faster, closer, and higher-quality healthcare services to the community.
