The 79th Independence Day Flag Ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia (HUT ke-79 RI) which falls on August 17, 2024, has been planned to be held in the National Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan. The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) as the Government Public Relations will continue to provide updates on information regarding the development of IKN. This includes collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) which is currently making various preparations for the ceremony at IKN.

"We hope to continue building synergy and collaboration between ministries and institutions to provide fast, accurate, objective information to all Indonesian people. Also, to our media colleagues until we can increase public trust in the Government's commitment to the development of IKN," said Director of Information and Communication of the Economy and Maritime of Kemenkominfo, SeptrianaTangkary, at the Press Conference on Infrastructure Readiness of PUPR Ahead of the 79th Independence Day Flag Ceremony at IKN virtually (11/7).

The Head of the Infrastructure Development Planning Task Force of IKN at the Ministry of PUPR, Imam Santoso Ernawi, explained that there are six (6) scopes that are the focus of PUPR ahead of the upcoming August 17 ceremony. Namely, the scope of the Core Area of Government Offices (KIPP), area arrangement, housing, KIPP and regional connectivity, Water Resources (SDA) and urban drainage, as well as drinking water and sanitation. Imam explained that leading up to August 17, the focus is on the functional aspect, and after that, the development of IKN will continue to be completed.

"On the 17th [of August], it doesn't mean that all buildings are finished, but they are functional and can be used. But for the 17th activities, we will utilize which spaces are functional for the activities there," explained Imam.

The KIPP area will be the core location for the ceremony, specifically in the field located in the State Palace Area. As of July 4, 2024, the realization of this area has reached 82.73% and its main spaces are now functionally used.Speaking of government offices, Imam also explained that the Coordinating Ministry area is targeted to be optimally used for office work in September. However, it is currently functional for a capacity of around 2,170 people and will be completed gradually. As for the area planning scope, the current priority is the three plazas in front of the palace, namely the Seremoni/SumbuKebangsaan Plaza, the Bendera/Beranda Nusantara Plaza, and the Bhinneka Plaza."The seremoni plaza is already 100% complete and is currently being perfected. Later, many people will come here to enliven the area. Right in front of the palace, there is a curved building which is the visitor center that serves as an information center, and there is a location designated for UMKM booths," Imam explained. In terms of residential areas, there are 12 Civil Servant (ASN) and Defense & Security (Hankam) residential buildings ready out of a total of 47 planned buildings. Access for guests attending the upcoming ceremony has also been arranged for more efficient timing."The regular access is about 2 hours through the province, and currently being prepared for access from Balikpapan to KIPP is about 70 minutes," Imam clarified.

The organization of the Flag Ceremony at IKN certainly needs to be anticipated amidst unpredictable weather. PUPR has prepared an urban drainage system and the use of the area as a retention pond for water storage. As for the availability of clean water, a minimum of 150 liters per second will be operational to meet the needs of the area that will be operational on August 17. This July, PUPR is focusing on conducting tests & commissioning to inspect and test various infrastructure in IKN, including for drinking water.
