President Prabowo Subianto expressed his support for the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) as part of efforts to eradicate corruption to be passed immediately. "Ladies and Gentlemen, in the context of eradicating corruption, I support the Asset Confiscation Bill. I support it," said Prabowo in his speech while attending the commemoration of International Labor Day or May Day at Monas Field, Jakarta, Thursday (1/5/2025). The Head of State emphasized that there should be no compromise with corruptors who do not want to return the proceeds of their crimes. "It's easy, they've stolen, but they don't want to return the assets. I'll just withdraw it," said Prabowo, which was immediately greeted with enthusiastic shouts from the workers, "Agreed!" Because in reality, since 2008, discussions on the Asset Confiscation Bill have stalled in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). In fact, two eras of government have ended, namely the Government of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and the Government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the Asset Confiscation Law has not been successfully passed. The following is the journey of the Asset Confiscation Bill which has experienced various challenges and obstacles since it was first proposed until it was attempted to be included in the 2025 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) in the Indonesian House of Representatives: 2008: First Proposal from PPATK The journey of the Asset Confiscation Bill began in 2008, when the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) began to study the need for legislation related to the confiscation of assets from criminal acts. This study was motivated by efforts to eradicate corruption and other criminal acts in Indonesia which required more effective legal instruments. 2012: Submission to the Indonesian House of Representatives After conducting studies for several years, in 2012, the Criminal Asset Confiscation Bill was officially submitted to the Indonesian House of Representatives to be included in national legislation. However, the discussion of this bill did not immediately run smoothly and had to face various political and legal obstacles. 2014-2023: Stalled in the DPR For years, this bill has experienced various delays. Although it was submitted in 2012, the Asset Confiscation Bill has not been seriously discussed by the Indonesian House of Representatives. On several occasions, the discussion of this bill has come up in discussions, but there is no clarity about when it will be discussed or passed. This situation is exacerbated by differences of opinion among members of the DPR regarding the urgency and substance of the bill.
