Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and the British Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Dominic Jermey affirmed their shared commitment to continue strengthening bilateral economic relations and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation. This occurred during their meeting on Friday (16/5/2025) which discussed various strategic issues, including strategies to face global challenges related to tariffs and the increasing trend of protectionism that has the potential to hinder trade flows and disrupt the stability of the global supply chain. Both agreed to encourage more open, inclusive, and sustainable economic integration in a meeting aimed at strengthening cooperative relations between Indonesia and the UK as well as following up on the Visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to the UK in November 2024. This meeting is a continuation of the agreement between President Prabowo Subianto and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in commemorating the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-UK diplomatic relations in November 2024, where the two heads of government agreed to form the Indonesia-UK Economic Growth Partnership (EGP) as a new economic cooperation framework that will encourage growth and collaboration in various sectors. In addition, the UK's support for Indonesia's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was also discussed. The Indonesian government expressed its hope that the UK, as one of the OECD member countries, can continue to provide support for Indonesia's efforts to strengthen its position in the international forum. "Indonesia is planned to officially submit the Initial Memorandum (IM) document in early June 2025, coinciding with the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga, quoted from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs' press release, Sunday (18/5). "The British government expressed its appreciation for Indonesia's positive response to the accession process to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). This is seen as a strong and progressive commitment from Indonesia towards regional economic integration," explained Ambassador Jermey. "We would like to inform you that the British Government will launch the UK Industrial Strategy next June," explained Ambassador Jermey.
