BI Records Budget Surplus Of IDR 52.19 Trillion In 2024

Tuesday, 01 Jul 2025

Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded a budget surplus after tax of IDR 52.19 trillion in 2024. This figure increased compared to the previous year which was recorded at IDR 36.3 trillion.

In the 2024 BI Annual Financial Report, it was stated that the surplus came from income that was greater than the burden borne by BI throughout last year. It was recorded that BI's income reached IDR 228.66 trillion, while the burden that had to be borne reached IDR 161.3 trillion.

BI's income in 2024 mostly came from the implementation of monetary policy of IDR 226.89 trillion. In addition, income was also obtained from the management of the payment system of IDR 249.5 billion, macroprudential regulation and supervision of IDR 5.6 billion, provision of funding of IDR 67.05 billion, and other income of IDR 1.45 trillion.

Meanwhile, the burden borne by BI throughout last year consisted of the implementation of monetary policy of IDR 84.07 trillion, management of the payment system of IDR 2.97 trillion, macroprudential regulation and supervision of IDR 1.14 trillion, financial relations with the government of IDR 55.01 trillion, and general and other expenses of IDR 18.1 trillion.

Based on the Bank Indonesia Law, if the capital ratio to monetary liabilities exceeds 10%, BI is required to deposit the remaining surplus which is the government's share. However, before being deposited, the remaining surplus must first be used to pay the government's obligations to BI.

As of December 31, 2024, BI's capital ratio to monetary liabilities was recorded at 9.72%. Because this ratio is still below the 10% threshold, there was no deposit of the remaining surplus to the government that year.

On the other hand, BI also recorded a bill to the government in 2024 of IDR 59.88 trillion. This figure is higher than the surplus recorded by BI in the same period.
