Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the United States (US) has postponed the implementation of a 32 percent tariff on imported Indonesian products. Previously, US President Donald Trump announced that Indonesian imports would be subject to a 32 percent tariff, effective August 1, 2025. "The timing (of the 32 percent tariff) is what we call a pause. So, the postponement is to complete existing negotiations," Airlangga said during a press conference in Brussels, Belgium, Saturday (July 12) local time, as quoted by Antara. According to Airlangga, the decision to postpone was the result of a meeting between him and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and the Head of the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer, held in Washington, D.C., United States, last Wednesday (July 9). He explained that during the meeting, the US and Indonesia agreed that Indonesia's proposal would continue to be processed in further negotiations over the next three weeks. "So, these three weeks are expected to finalize and fine-tune the proposals and fine-tune what has been exchanged," he said. Before flying to the US to negotiate tariffs with the Trump team, Airlangga accompanied President Prabowo Subianto to the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
