NEC Indonesia and Sinar Mas Land, through its subsidiary PT Samakta Mitra, have teamed up for a strategic partnership aimed at tackling the impacts of climate change by utilizing Adaptation Finance and disaster mitigation visualization technology. Adaptation Finance is an initiative launched by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), which is a UN program designed to assess the risks and impacts of natural disasters caused by climate change. This helps in early risk identification, planning for mitigation, and building better resilience for businesses. On October 15, 2024, Irvan Yasni (CEO of Technology Advisory and Business at Sinar Mas Land) and Joji Yamamoto (President Director of NEC Indonesia) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to kick off a joint study on Adaptation Finance in Indonesia at the Biomedical Campus in BSD City. The signing was also witnessed by Yutaka Ukegawa (Corporate Executive Vice President of NEC Corporation) and Mulyawan Gani (Chief Transformation & Data Officer of Sinar Mas Land). Joji Yamamoto expressed that this collaboration is a significant first step towards realizing the Adaptation Finance initiative to mitigate climate change. He believes that the technology and solutions provided by NEC can help create adaptive financial solutions applicable across various sectors. NEC Indonesia is really excited about working with Sinar Mas Land's subsidiary, PT Samakta Mitra. Previously, NEC implemented similar solutions in Japan with the support of several leading insurance companies. This success highlights the great potential of this collaboration to make a positive impact on Indonesia's financial services industry, especially in addressing the growing climate challenges. Irvan Yasni, the CEO of Technology Advisory and Business at Sinar Mas Land, shared that "Adaptation Finance offers a huge opportunity to create a more sustainable and secure environment in the face of disaster risks from climate change. We’re teaming up with NEC Indonesia to research Adaptation Finance and develop case studies that will help us anticipate adaptation measures and solutions for climate change across various sectors. By implementing technology for disaster risk mapping and climate change, insurance companies will be able to estimate potential losses and mitigate existing risks effectively." Through this collaboration, Sinar Mas Land and NEC Indonesia aim to create risk visualization solutions that can map out potential natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, and tropical cyclones. This will help speed up the adoption of disaster risk mitigation solutions among insurance, banking, and investment sectors. It also supports better protection for communities and infrastructure in the future. By leveraging data-driven solutions, predictive analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI), NEC Indonesia will pinpoint potential threats and environmental impacts while providing more effective risk mitigation recommendations. This technology allows for more strategic and sustainable fund allocation, ensuring that Adaptation Finance can positively impact communities, businesses, and the environment.
