Pemerintah Berencana Bangun Tanggul Laut 958 Kilometer Dari Cilegon Ke Gresik

Wednesday, 06 Nov 2024

The government plans to build a sea wall that will stretch 958 kilometers from Cilegon, Banten to Gresik, East Java. This projection was shared by the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, during a meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, at the Ministry of IPK office in Jakarta on Friday, November 1, 2024.

The sea wall project follows President Prabowo Subianto's directive during a retreat in Magelang, Central Java, and aims to address the sinking land in Jakarta and prevent flooding. "We previously conducted a trial project from Tangerang to Bekasi, covering 43 kilometers, a few years ago with funding from South Korea and the Netherlands for the basic design," Dody stated in an official release.

The collaboration between Indonesia, South Korea, and the Netherlands for the sea wall began in 2016 with the establishment of a trilateral cooperation to restore the environment of the Jakarta Bay area. In February 2017, the Project Management Unit for National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (PMU NCICD) was formed. By 2020, PMU NCICD and the trilateral partners developed the Integrated Flood Safety Plan (IFSP) as a comprehensive flood control strategy, focusing on clean water supply, improved sanitation at river mouths, and flood management.

The Ministry of Public Works has completed the construction of the Jatilihur I Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM), which can provide 4,000 liters of clean water per second for Jakarta, Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, and Karawang Regency. Currently, the Ministry is preparing to build the Karian Serpong Regional SPAM with a capacity of 3,200 liters per second and the Djuanda/Jatiluhur II Regional SPAM with a capacity of 2,054 liters per second, using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) financing scheme.

At the same event, AHY mentioned that President Prabowo emphasized the importance of building a giant sea wall and continuing the development of the new capital, Nusantara (IKN). "The goal is to make the northern coast of Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bekasi safer, as we know Jakarta is facing land subsidence and is constantly at risk of flooding and erosion," said AHY.
