Pelindo Is Transforming To Improve Services In The Non-container Port Sector

Friday, 05 Jul 2024

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo continues to strive to improve services in the non-containerized port sector by undergoing a massive transformation.

One strategic step taken is to divide Pelindo into four subholdings. This step was revealed by the President Director of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal, AryHenryanto, during the event "Sharing Session: Transformation of the Non-Containerized Port World in Indonesia" at Djakarta Theater, on Tuesday (2/6).

After the merger of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) on October 1, 2021, Pelindo underwent a massive restructuring. This restructuring includes the formation of four subholdings, namely the Container Subholding, Non-Container Subholding, Marine, Equipment & Port Services Subholding, and Logistics & Hinterland Development Subholding. This restructuring aims to optimize the organizational structure and improve operational efficiency.

Sea transport is identified as the most efficient cargo transportation mode compared to other modes of transportation, with efficiency reaching approximately 11 percent better than trains and 51 percent better than trucks.

According to AryHenryanto, one of the focuses of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal is to improve the quality of port services to create a more efficient logistics chain. The main goal of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal is to reduce port and cargo stay costs, even though each terminal has its own uniqueness in each region. Most terminals in Java Island are unloading terminals (imports), while outside Java Island, most are loading terminals.

PT Pelindo Multi Terminal focuses on standardizing services at loading and unloading terminals, commercial activities at terminals, terminal management efficiency, and profit growth. PT Pelindo Multi Terminal is also open to partnering with cargo owners as strategic partners to increase productivity and commercial capacity.

SautGurning, the Professor of Maritime Logistics Risk at Surabaya Institute of Technology, mentioned that Pelindo's attention has been quite good, considering that the world is moving towards non-containerized cargo. On the other hand, WijiDewabroto, the Executive VP of Port Handling and Stevedoring at FKS Logistics, highlighted the significant transformation that PT Pelindo Multi Terminal has undergone, even before the merger. This transformation has led to increased productivity, especially in handling dry bulk cargo at TelukLamong terminal, making it one of the most modern terminals in Southeast Asia. Additionally, the growth in cargo handling, particularly grains and meal, has been substantial since the transformation of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal. The formation of four sub-holdings by Pelindo demonstrates the company's commitment to enhancing efficiency and service quality in non-containerized port operations in Indonesia.
