Support Eco-Friendly Mosques, Realize Pegadaian's Commitment To Sustainability

Monday, 28 Jul 2025

Pegadaian demonstrates its commitment and focus on sustainability for the community by supporting the Eco-Friendly Mosque Competition organized by IDN Times. This event received full attention from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI). The highlight of the event was the announcement of the top three mosques that served as inspirations for implementing sustainability principles. Jami Miftahul Jannah Mosque in Cakung, East Jakarta, was declared the grand winner and directly received the DKI Jakarta Governor's Cup from Governor Pramono Anung during the award ceremony at City Hall at the end of June (26/06).

This event marks an important moment in transforming mosques into not just spiritual centers but also pioneers of environmental movements in urban areas, in line with what Governor Pramono Anung stated.

"Because nowadays, being friendly to the environment is not easy amid global pressures like wars and so on. So, after thinking it over, I want to say congratulations," Pramono said.

In addition to Jami Miftahul Jannah Mosque as the first winner, Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque and Asy Syifa RSCM Mosque secured the second and third positions, respectively. This competition attracted a very high level of enthusiasm, with over 50 mosques in Jakarta participating, evaluated based on eight eco-friendly criteria, ranging from waste management to energy and community empowerment.

"At Pegadaian, we believe that sustainability is part of faith and real action. Our support for this program reflects Pegadaian's commitment to 'MengEMASkan Indonesia', not only economically but also through sustainable social and environmental movements," said Rully Yusuf, Executive Vice President of PT Pegadaian.

This competition is part of the 478th Anniversary of DKI Jakarta, aiming to highlight the spirit of collaboration in developing Jakarta as an inclusive, green, and spiritual city. The judges will focus not only on physical aspects but also on social factors, innovation, and sustainability when selecting the winners.

In addition to supporting the Eco-Friendly Mosque Competition, Pegadaian will launch a Free Mosque Carpet Cleaning Program in 50 mosques across the Jabodetabek area at the beginning of 2025. This program reflects Pegadaian's commitment to preparing places of worship to welcome congregants for Eid al-Fitr.

Mosque carpets are essential for Islamic worship. Through professional and hygienic cleaning, Pegadaian ensures that these mosques are not only physically clean but also spiritually comfortable. This initiative is also part of Pegadaian's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) point 11, which focuses on Sustainable Cities and Communities. Clean and healthy mosques represent livable environments and enhance the quality of life for the community.

Pegadaian believes that every contribution, no matter how small, can be part of a greater good. Through the Pegadaian Mosque Care Program, Pegadaian offers not just services but genuine support to help the community worship in peace and in suitable places.
