Since 2019, the 'Santri Bercahaya, Sehat, dan Percaya Diri' program ("Santri Berseri") has reached over 1 million male and female students in more than 2,000 pesantrens. To expand its benefits, Unilever Indonesia continues the "Santri Berseri 2024" program, which consists of health training and education activities targeting administrators, male and female students in pesantrens across 17 provinces. By the end of the year, this program, fully supported by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, aims to reach 1 million students across Indonesia. Nurdiana Darus, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Unilever Indonesia, explained, "As a company committed to growing together with the Indonesian community, we continuously innovate through products and educational programs that meet consumer needs for a cleaner and healthier life. In terms of education, we continue to collaborate with the Government and educational institutions to support the creation of a healthier future generation." Unilever Indonesia believes that pesantrens are strategic educational institutions to engage with because cleanliness and health are in line with Islamic teachings. Moreover, the intense interaction among students studying and living in pesantrens provides a great opportunity to emulate and imitate various positive aspects, including Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). "Therefore, since 2019, we have been organizing the 'Santri Berseri' program that emphasizes the power of peer-to-peer learning in implementing PHBS and Personal Grooming, with a focus on the importance of personal and environmental hygiene, as well as balanced nutritional food consumption," Nurdiana continued. Since 2019, we've been running the 'Santri Berseri' program, which focuses on the power of peer-to-peer learning to promote healthy living and personal grooming. We really emphasize the importance of personal and environmental cleanliness, along with balanced nutrition, Nurdiana shared. The “Santri Berseri 2024” initiative aims to extend its benefits to another 1 million students across 1,000 pesantren in 17 provinces, ultimately reaching a total of 2 million students. These provinces include North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, Central Java, East Java, Aceh, West Java, Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, South Kalimantan, DKI Jakarta, and Banten. To show support and collaboration, each program event is attended by representatives from the local Ministry of Religious Affairs. During one of the activities, Dr. H. Ibnu Asaddudin, S.Ag., M.Pd., the head of the Banyumas Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, stated, “This program is incredibly beneficial because the students, as the future generation of the nation, need to be empowered; they should be ready to serve the country at any time while staying true to their identity as students. To be empowered, they must adopt clean and healthy habits—taking clean showers, using shampoo, caring for their skin, and eating nutritious food. When they feel clean, radiant, and healthy, their confidence will grow, and that confidence will help shape empowered students.” Kicking off the program, from June to August 2024, NGO partners will conduct a Training of Trainers (ToT) involving pesantren leaders and student ambassadors. This training will cover topics like proper handwashing, brushing teeth twice a day, maintaining hair cleanliness, skincare routines, and preventing body odor as part of personal hygiene.
