Monday, 12 Aug 2024

The Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, highlighted that over the past decade, the Ministry has achieved significant milestones, including controlling forest and land fires, accelerating social forestry, protecting biodiversity, building green infrastructure, restoring land, managing deforestation, and promoting a circular economy. "What's crucial and fundamental is the public campaign and public participation," she emphasized during her speech at the Appreciation Night of the Environment, Climate, Forestry, and Renewable Energy Festival (LIKE - 2) 2024 at JCC, Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday night (11/08/2024). The awards, according to Minister Siti, are a way to recognize the active roles and real contributions of individuals and groups in addressing environmental issues and conserving natural resources. Therefore, the LIKE-2 event also featured an Appreciation Night. This occasion welcomed all the award recipients from various community sectors. The 2024 LIKE-2 awardees include representatives from local governments, the business sector, environmental communities, inspiring figures, local heroes, and the youth. In her speech, Minister Siti acknowledged that the success in achieving environmental and forestry development goals could only be realized through strong collaboration and active participation from all stakeholders, including environmental communities, community leaders, academics, the business world, the media, and importantly, the younger generation. "So, on this joyful occasion, I want to express my highest appreciation to everyone who has worked tirelessly and collaboratively to contribute to the advancement of the environment and forestry sector," said Minister Siti.

Minister Siti pointed out that this collaborative effort isn't just about transforming bureaucratic responses; it's a shared foundation for developing the environmental sector, involving the government, local authorities, civil society, communities, and businesses. Climate change, deforestation, land degradation, and the need for renewable energy constantly push us to innovate and come up with new ideas, conserve water, land, and natural resources, manage climate issues, and prepare for disaster risks. She emphasized that real action and public campaigns are crucial tools in environmental work. Consistency and persistence are key attitudes that deserve recognition.

To honor the active roles and real contributions of individuals and groups in tackling environmental issues and preserving natural resources, the LIKE-2 event will feature an Appreciation Night. This occasion will celebrate all the award recipients from various community sectors. The 2024 LIKE-2 awardees include representatives from local governments, businesses, environmental communities, inspiring figures, local heroes, and youth.

The LIKE-2 Festival took place from August 8 to August 11, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center Hall A & B, themed "10 Years of Work for Sustainability." The festival showcased inspiring events, including exhibitions of eco-friendly technology innovations, coaching clinics, writing competitions, diplomacy contests, cultural performances, and more, all contributing to the essence of LIKE-2.
